whatever happens

I finally found the Robert A. Heinlein quote I've been trying to find for years. In the early 70s, my wild years, me and my friends considered this all we needed to know about religion and morality:

"Sin lies only in hurting other people unnecessarily. All other 'sins' are invented nonsense. Hurting yourself is not sinful - just stupid."

Now, those are words to live by.

Oh, my God/ess! That sums it up so perfectly!

Don't you love it when a quote you remember from years ago finally floats back up to the surface of your life? I had this experience recently with the following, which I remembered vaguely, and someone on an email list I subscribe to had complete and correct:

"English is the result of Norman soldiers attempting to pick up Anglo-Saxon barmaids, and is no more legitimate than any of the other results." -- H. Beam Piper
It reminds me a bit of The Wiccan Rede:

"Eight words the Wiccan Rede fulfill:
An' it harm none,
Do what ye will.
Blessed Be to thee."
