whatever happens

I just began a series of historical novels, and, having read the first book of the series, Medicus, I am really eager to read the rest. They're historical novels set during the occupation of Britain by the Roman empire. The hero is a doctor called Ruso, and I can't express his character any better than the way Kirkus Review did: "Ruso is a wonderful character, fuelled by a dyspeptic machismo and sullen charm reminiscent of Harrison Ford in his heyday." The great thing is the way his character, which can be naive, keeps him partially blind to what's going on around him, so that he keeps blundering about with dignity until he finally gets it right. It's very well-written for a first novel, too.
