"Television is a medium because anything well done is rare." - Fred Allen

*cracks up*

That's pretty catty coming from me, a person who just put up a website for Deadwood. Deadwood is the exception that proves the rule, perhaps. But what's sad is that Fred Allen died in the 50s - you would think that TV would have improved some in 50 years!

I think there are still some good shows out there. I personally like '24' for suspense. I don't think any show is anywhere near the roller coaster that one is.

For good characters, 'House' and 'Boston Legal' are on my list. Both have very good casts with characters that are different and interesting.

'Rescue Me' is a well done series. It's hard to recommend since it is dark and disfunctional. But it can be funny too.

I don't have HBO so I haven't seen Deadwood though.
Yes, you're right. I have heard those are good shows. Maybe the quality of TV is on the upswing? Wouldn't that be good.
LOL, I thought we had discussed (and Steven King agreed with us!) that Television has improved dramatically in the last five or six years. For several decades there really was nothing worth watching dramatically, but now there are a whole slew of shows that are every bit as good as movies. Our Deadwood, of course. But, there's also Joss' work, Veronica Mars, and Lost to name just a few.
You're right, we did. I just keep forgetting.
You can get Deadwood on DVD now, so no excuses, Zora! ;)

If you haven't seen The Sopranos, that's also incredible. Very gritty and believable.

I'm dying to see Rome, which just now came out on video. Thank you, HBO, for being the corner where great TV can exist!
