On another note... *dismounts from her one-trick pony*

I've watched a movie and read a book recently, both recommended to me by zora113, and now I want to recommend them to everyone else.

The movie is Mrs. Henderson Presents, the story of a bored, rich, feisty, eccentric 1930s widow who buys a theater on a whim, gets herself a manager who's as pigheaded as she is, and ends up introducing a nudie show to London's West End. Her theater is the only one which ran throughout WWII, since it was underground. It's based on a true story, and the story is interesting. The script is good, and so is everything else about it (although it is a BBC production, so the nudity is full frontal and real, folks *g*). The best thing about it, however, is watching two amazing actors - Judi Dench and Bob Hoskins - play off each other. I'd pay to watch those two play poker, even, but to hear them exchanging acerbic dialog is the most fun I've had since seeing Katherine Hepburn and Peter O'Toole square off in The Lion in Winter.

The book is Gideon the Cutpurse. It's a young-adult novel, the first of a trilogy (and I can't wait for the others), about two kids who get sent back in time to 1763. Normally I loathe time travel and its paradoxes, but this story is so original and well-written, and the characters so interesting, that I not only read it, I enjoyed it from cover to cover. The author immerses you in 18th century life without, as my roomie puts it, "going on the lecture tour", a common failing in less skillful writers. In other words, there is nothing pedantic about the historical aspect of it, no paragraphs of explanation - all of the history is woven right into the story itself, so that you live it, not learn it.

And just incidentally, the newest Artemis Fowl book is due to be released soon. YAY!!! If y'all haven't tried these, you're missing a treat.

I was delighted to hear that you liked Mrs. Henderson Presents, as I have it sitting on my table and plan to watch it tonight. We rented three movies this weekend, and of course, we had to watch the other two first because Wes didn't think he'd like this one as much as the others. Maybe if I tell him about the full frontal nudity, that will spark his interest. *snicker*

I'm going to put Gideon the Cutpurse on my list, since I usually love time travel, and since you recommend it, I'm sure that it will be a real treat. I'm actually reading this summer!! Books, not just fanfic! *g*

I hope to finish your email this week. *sweatdrop* Is it a good enough excuse to say that I'm waiting for the next chapter of FB to come out, which should be any day now? *huggles*
