whatever happens

I've watched two more episodes of season two, and I'm enjoying it much more now. The writing seems better than in the first two episodes, but I'm not sure if it's because:
a) it is better
b) I'm more in the mood
c) I'm getting used to the new Doctor
d) there's less angst

Anyway, I went into these episodes with trepidation. I mean, werewolf? Queen Victoria? Sarah Jane? K9? (jeez, when that dog was invented, K9 was a clever name for it...)

But as usual with this new series, I needn't have worried. These have been great. The only thing I didn't like was the reintroduction of K9. Never did care for that thing. But, like the Daleks and Cybermen and even Sarah Jane, it had to come back.

But moving on to the things I did like - or rather, some high points, since I liked all of it, even K9 almost. In order as they come to my mind:

Anthony Head as a villain. Fangirl SQUEEEEEEE!!! I should stop right there. But wasn't he great?? Wasn't he seductively wicked? Wasn't he fun?

Sarah Jane. I thought this was handled superbly. Her continual, demanding repetition of the question he couldn't answer (Why didn't you come back?) was so right. The girlie giggle session with Rose and his so-male confusion was such fun, and desperately needed at that point. Her maturity in contrast with Rose's sulks, their sniping at each other - all of that was a little overdone, but since it was done in complete stride with the pace of the show, it all fit. Her parting comment, about him replacing the old model with the new, was bittersweet perfection.

The kid with the glasses hitting the fire alarm. So simple. So cool.

Prince Albert the far-sighted. The idea that he created this elaborate plan with Sir Robert's father, to protect Victoria, was brilliant.

Sir Robert the hero. That was so sad, especially when he had such a brave and loving wife. Heck, even Capt. Reynolds' death was sad. *sniff*

"I'm the tin dog!" ROFLMAO!! I liked Mickey in this one much better than the previous ones. And the "oh we're in a CAR" bit with K9 was a hoot!

OK, that's enough for now. :)

I'm so glad to hear that you're enjoying the second series! It only gets better, I assure you! In fact, when you compare the 'School Reunion' episode to future episodes, it doesn't seem quite so great anymore. You're watching the series in order, I presume? If so, the next episode should be 'The Girl in the Fireplace', which is one of my favourites!
I just watched that today (yes, I'm watching them in sequence). That was an interesting episode. The idea of the Doctor as a sex object is still odd to me, so I'm not sure if I like it or not. But isn't "lonely angel" a lovely term? They made le Pompadour seem like a great lady, but if I remember my history right, she wasn't quite as nice as she was in this episode. I think I like this better than real history. :)
