whatever happens

I have one person who regularly contributes to AL, primarily Care Bear stuff. She tends to disregard my rules and creates trouble for me in several ways. Today I discovered that she plagiarized her descriptions. She took them from different sources - Wikipedia and a toy site were the ones I found specifically.

*pulls hair*

I've been looking for a reason to boot her off the site. I've told her she has until the next update to send me original descriptions, or I will remove every one of her contributions from AL.

And I mean it. I'll do it if it takes me all day long.

Plagiarizing form Wikipedia is like pirating open source software.... why would you do it? All Wikipedia articles are licensed under the GFDL which is specifically designed to allow someone to copy and even MODIFY the work in any way they want in any form they want and all they have to do is cite the source and have the derivative work also under the GFDL.
But that's not the point. AL is a fan-based site. The idea is to put your own words to the characters. I don't want character pages stamped from Wikipedia, I want what my fans think and say. My rules specifically say that I want your own words.
Can I be honest? I say if someone scrapes by with a minor offense, no big deal, but if they make life hairy for you, don't take the contribution. Let them know the first time, but there have been lots of contributors who have caused a lot of work that would have been a lot simpler if they'd have just kept with the rules.

It's your sight, so you don't have to do anything. Heck, if you find certain cartoons offensive and don't want anything to do with them, that's well within your right as well.
I agree. I have discontinued people who have given me trouble. I give extra attempts to people who have trouble understanding me, such as those with Asperger's or who don't speak English well. This person seems to have trouble understanding, for whatever reason, so I've cut her some slack.

That, however, is now over.
Harsh? All I want is that the person keep it short, identify the show, and say it in their own words.
You have the most patience with these people of anyone I know. You always give people every chance possible until they push you to the limit or flagrantly break one of your (very reasonable) rules, which she obviously has. It must be very hard to deal with a situation like this, and I think you're handling it admirably.
Would you take take down all those pages? Cuz if you want new descriptions, I may be able to rewrite some. I'd hate to see you waste all day taking down all those pages or for fans of those characters to be upset by the pages being removed.
I would definitely do so, but I'm glad to have an alternative. She's promised me rewritten descriptions, so I won't have to do it, but if this ever comes up again with her or anyone else, I'll post in the forum for others to help out! You're right, that's a much better idea than taking the pages down.
Cool. :) Well if she doesn't, just let me know and I'll try to help out.
