whatever happens

Argh. I forgot to put my handicapped hang-tag on my mirror today (it was raining, and I'm tired). It's not the first time I've forgotten to put it up there, but this time I got a ticket. NUTS.

That really rattles me. I've been driving for 30+ years, and I've only had one other ticket. Worse, this one is in my roomie's name, because the car is in her name. Nuts nuts nuts.

And of course, since it's a tool of bureaucracy, it's almost impossible to figure out what to do about the darned thing.

And then a truck backed into me in the parking lot when I picked up my roomie. No harm done, but it freaked me out to look out my window and see nothing but a big white tailgate.

Something told me to stay home today.

Depending on the price of the ticket, you could just pay it and be done -- but that actually involves 1) what it costs you since this can vary widely locale to locale and 2) what it does to her driving record... Alternately, you could show up in court, and explain -- the traffic court judge might waive the ticket. But that involves taking time off work. However it might work -- someone I knew years ago got out of a ticket she had been given for an illegal lane change she made when she had been avoiding another car that had almost sideswiped her -- she went to court and explained to the judge she'd made the lane change to avoid an accident, and he let her out of the ticket. So it might be worth it....
