Thinking burns calories

Nearly every time I read a Smithsonian magazine, I learn something interesting. Two bits of trivia that I've read lately and am going to share with y'all whether you like it or not (*grin*) ~

1) The federal income tax here in the United States is a primary result of Prohibition
2) The first million-seller instrumental sheet music occurred in 1899, and was "Maple Leaf Rag" by Scott Joplin

A couple of years ago, I found a video that proved that income tax was against the US constitution. No one's been able to show me the law otherwise since.
I've actually heard that. Apparently it was supposed to be ratified by a certain number of states, and it was not. But I don't recall the details nor completely trust my source - still, if you've heard it, too, it just might be true!
