I learned another skill today. The gas company was doing some work outside our house, the past couple of days. I was already irritated with them, since they forced me to rise at 7:00AM on Thursday and to keep our dogs in the house for 4 hours in the morning after telling me it would only be 3 hours. They also told me that our gas wouldn't be cut off and that we wouldn't need to relight our pilot light on the water heater. I specifically asked about that, twice. So, much to my surprise, when my roomie took her shower this morning, there was no hot water. My new skill? Crawling around on the laundry room floor, opening the water heater, and lighting the pilot. Seriously, it's a good thing to know how to do, and give me kudos for having the instruction manual in a place where I could find it easily. Also give my roomie a pat on the head for going out onto the back porch for the first time since she came home from the nursing home, to help me. Mostly she stood by to read the instructions and to hold a damp towel in case I set myself on fire, which, fortunately, I didn't, but it was an accomplishment for her to get into that space.
