whatever happens

Wow, another new adventure. I got served papers this evening. I'm being sued. That's a first for me! It's for a debt I defaulted on, so I do owe the money, but not more than about a quarter of what they're asking for. So I'm going to see if I can settle without the hassle of court. Wish me luck!

Oh my goodness! Sending good luck! Hope things turn out okay.
Wow, M! This is great. I did already know some of it, but not all.

The lawyer I spoke to says it's a small-claims case, so retaining him would cost me a lot for no real gain. He advised me to make a settlement offer directly to the plaintiff's lawyers, so I will do that.

They already sent me the paperwork, so they have me nailed. However, I'm going to take the position that, although I owe the principal, I never signed or agreed to pay finance and interest charges to the debt collector. I'm hoping to get all that stuff taken off, and then it'll probably be within my ability to pay it off.

I will definitely check out those links! Thanks for those!

I have until sometime in the first week in March to respond to the court, and don't worry, I will respond and, unless I can settle, I will be there. I haven't quite figured out how to say, "No, I don't owe that", given the documentation that they have. *grin*

I'm so glad to hear from you!!
